2L + 2w = 48
w = 5/7L

2L + 2(5/7L) = 48
24/7L = 48
L = 48 / 24/7
L = 14


2L + 2w = 48
2(14) + 2w = 48
28 + 2w = 48
2w = 20
w = 10

To check your work:
w = 5/7L
10 = 5/7(14)
10 = 10


The width is 10.
