The x-intercept is the point where the line crosses the x-axis, at this point the value of y is equal to zero. To determine the x-intercept you have to substitute the equation of the line with y=0 and solve for x:

[tex]\begin{gathered} -2x-7y=56 \\ -2x-7\cdot0=56 \\ -2x=56 \end{gathered}[/tex]

Divide both sides by -2 to determine the value of x:

[tex]\begin{gathered} \frac{-2x}{-2}=\frac{56}{-2} \\ x=-28 \end{gathered}[/tex]

The x-intercept is (-28,0)
