  • Water cannot be added to a sugar molecule directly; it must first be taken out of the molecule before the two sugar molecules can be linked. This glue, known as a glycosidic linkage, holds these lengthy chains containing simple sugars together.

As a result, both simple sugars and carbohydrates are categorized as organic compounds. In addition, all sugar molecules have a -ose ending. Examples of compounds with a -ose ending are glucose and fructose.
