To ensure that schools were integrated and African Americans were allowed to enter and securely attend formerly white only schools President Dwight Eisenhower ordered military troops to escort black students to their new schools and ensure their safety. Parents of the white students and neighbors to the school violently protested but he armed forces were present to make sure they caused to harm and the new students were allowed to enter the school.
