They were able to get more land and get for sure access to the New Orleans port that they used for trade. It also gave them a chance (with Lewis and Clarks expedition) to possibly find more items for trade. They also gained a huge chunk of land. To which part of it will later be traded for part of Florida with Spain in the Adams-Onis Treaty.
