Though western European countries, along with some other countries in the world, practice dairy farming with the most advanced technologies available, they have failed to cut down the need for large land areas required to set up and run dairies.
In order to run a dairy as small as one with only 4-5 cows, it requires a land area of not less than 1 acre. That is solely why dairy farming takes up a lot of land area and certainly is not one of the most favorite occupations.
