The overall main theme would be, in my opinion, the (im)possibility of an ideally just society of happy individuals. Whereas many of the features of the society that More depicts are so much better than in any real European society, some of them are not so bright. This place recognizes no private property, so all people are equal. Whereas it might sound socially just, it may also sound anti-individualistic and oppressive. The state is a regulator of people's private lives and resembles a totalitarian state. More is aware of all these conflicts. He leaves them unresolved on purpose, since he wants every one of his readers to engage all of their thinking and assume personal responsibility when it comes to social matters.
