a.) To find the median of this set of numbers, the first thing you will have to do is to order the numbers from least to greatest since the median of a data set is the middle number. When ordered this way, the number set should look like this: 8,10,12,12,16,18,19,19,19,21,22,35.
Now, when you count up to 6 from both sides, you notice that there are two numbers in the middle: 18 and 19
In scenarios like this, you would find the average or mean of the numbers (add them together and divide the sum by the number of numbers) which would be your mean. Your answer for this one would be 18.5

b.) To find the mean of a data set, you would add up all of the numbers and divide the sum by the number of numbers. When finding the mean, you do not have to arrange the numbers in a certain order like you have to do when finding the median. When you add up all the numbers in the data set, your sum should be 211. Now, divide the sum by the number of numbers in the data set which is 12. This would result in your answer, about 17.583

For the given data set

Median = [tex](18+19)/2 = 18.5[/tex]

Mean = 17.6

For a set of "n" discrete observations in increasing or decreasing order

The median of "n"  observations is given by

(1)   Middle term when"n" is odd

(2)  Average of two middle terms when "n" is even

[tex]Mean = Sum \; of\; all\; the\; observations /Total\; number\; of \; observations[/tex]

The dateset contains 12 discrete observations which are 8,22,19,12,18,19,10,35,12,19,16,21

On arranging it in increasing order we get

8

10

12

12

16

18

19

19

19

21

22

35

As There are 12 observations and it is even number

we can say that Median = Average of 6th and 7th Terms

So Median = [tex](18+19)/2 = 18.5[/tex]

Similarly Mean = (8+22+19+12+18+19+10+35+12+19+16+21)/12

Mean = 17.6
