|2x + 4| = 8

break down into two equations;

2x + 4 = 8        -(2x + 4) = 8

2x = 8 - 4          -2x - 4 = 8

2x = 4               -2x = 8 + 4

x = 2                  -2x = 12
                           
                            x = -6

so the answer is B) x = -6 or x = 2
