Mitochondrial electron transport is a series of reactions which take place in the mitochondria and which leads to the formation of ATP in the cell. When the electron transport chain is exposed to carbon monoxide, the gas will inhibit the cytochrome C oxidase and stop the production of ATP inside the cell. This will leads to the death of the cell.
