Adipose tissue fat cells secrete a hormone called leptin. Leptin sends messages to the brain, namely to the hypothalamus. Instead of affecting food intake from meal to meal, leptin affects food intake and regulates energy expenditure over the long run. When we lose weight and our leptin levels drop, the hormone has a more significant impact. A big appetite and excessive food consumption are stimulated by this. Sadly for dieters, the hormone makes it challenging to shed those additional pounds while also helping us to maintain our usual weight!
