What is glucose challenge test?
- Two steps make up the test's execution. A sugary solution is first consumed. Your blood sugar is assessed an hour later. Your chances of having gestational diabetes are determined by the test findings.
- The test is carried out when there is a suspicion of diabetes mellitus (GTT), most frequently during pregnancy (GCT), and when fasting glucose is less than 140 mg/dL.
- Less than 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L) is considered normal blood glucose. Impaired glucose tolerance, or prediabetes, is defined as a blood glucose level between 140 and 199 mg/dL (7.8 and 11 mmol/L).
- At three months after childbirth, the aberrant GCT is a standalone predictor of both glycemia and beta-cell dysfunction. Additionally, the GCT emerged as the greatest indication of women at risk for gestational diabetes when compared to other antepartum metabolic measurements on ROC analysis.
