It is a sociological framework that analyzes interactions, and their meanings, in order to understand the process through which individuals become competent members of a society.

Characteristics of interactionism

  • It studies interaction and symbols as key elements to understand both individual identity and social organization.

  • Through language things or objects are signified and their nature is given by the meaning it has for the subject who considers said object.

Therefore, we can conclude that interactionism studies human beings in a specific social context of meaningful objects; an issue that largely depends on the interactions we engage in.
