Acid-base reactions can also be classified as double replacement reaction.
An acid base reaction is said to have occurred when the replaceable hydrogen ions in an acid have all been replaced by metallic or ammonium ions. This is the basic definition of acid base reaction.
Consider the reaction;
NaOH(aq) + HCl(aq) ------> NaCl(aq) + H2O(l)
We can see that we can also classify this reaction as a double replacement reaction since each of the anions in the reactant side exchanged cation partners in the product.
The reaction fits the general description; AB + CD ----> AD + CB
Thus, acid-base reactions can also be classified as double replacement reaction.
