Roosevelt's approach toward the Great Depression was quite different than Hoover's approach. Hoover is remembered for believing that the government should not intervene in the economy, thus he did not participate much in the nation's affairs to overcome the economic crisis.
Roosevelt believed differently. During his campaign, he promised to take a complete change of direction. And as soon as he took office, he fulfilled his promises with the creation of the New Deal programs that aimed to stimulate the economy and provide relief to those most in need.
