And as the story gets pasted down even farther, the story gets altered. Think of the game telephone. You whisper to the person next to you a phrase, and they tell the next person, and so on. Finally, the phrase goes to the last person, it is very different. Probably some people accidently altered the original and also some may have purposely changed the phrase. A foundational myth is like what each person says what is the original phrase, when it is not.
