Characteristics of Porifera:

1. Porifera are non-motile animals attached to some solid support.
2. There are holes or pores called ostia, all over the body. These holes lead to a canal system that helps in circulating water throughout the body to bring in food and oxygen. Water flows through the bot cavity called spongocoel which is lined by choanocytes. The whole system is called canal system.
3. They are diploblastic, sedentary, aquatic animals.
4. These animals are covered with a hard outside layer or skeleton.
5. The body design involves very minimal differentiation and division into tissues.

Characteristics of Coelenterata:

1. These are animals living in water.
2. There is a body cavity.
3. They are diploblastic animals having gastrovascular cavity.
4. The body is made up of two layers of cells: one makes up cells on the outside of the body i.e., ectoderm, and the other makes the inner lining of the body i.e., endoderm. The body consists of cnidoblast cell that forms stinging apparatus called nematocyst which is the organ of offense and defense.
5. Some of these species live in colonies, while others have a solitary like-span.
