Answer and Explanation

Diplomatic immunity is is the right enjoyed by diplomats in the receiving country preventing them to be prosecuted by the receiving country. This is reciprocally accorded as the receiving country also has diplomats in the sending country. Violation of this law by the receiving country may lead to  protest by the  diplomatic body resident therein, and would affect its  own representatives abroad.

The main aim of the Convention is to allow diplomats to carry out their work without hindrance in the receiving state. They can do this only if they do not face any risk of reprisals the government of the receiving state.

If a diplomat breaks the law, only his own country (the sending country) has the right to prosecute him by recalling him or waiving his diplomatic right.

The aim of this convention is to ensure that the diplomat, who is a representative of his fellow countrymen in that land, is safe from any harassment . The safety of the diplomat translates to the safety of his people in that land.
