For this case we have the following system of equations:

[tex]-2x + 7y = 10\\3x + 7y = 2[/tex]

To subtract the second equation from the first we have

:[tex]-2x + 7y = 10\\- (3x + 7y = 2)[/tex]

Equivalent system:

[tex]-2x + 7y = 10\\-3x-7y = -2[/tex]

We add the equations:

[tex]-2x-3x + 7y-7y = 10-2[/tex]

Equal signs are added and the same sign is placed.

Different signs are subtracted the sign of the major is placed.

[tex]-5x = 8[/tex]

Thus, when we subtract the second equation from the first we have:

[tex]-5x = 8[/tex]

Answer:

[tex]-5x = 8[/tex]
