There are two main connective tissues in our Musculoskeletal system which serve in joining the structures (bones and muscles) together and with each other.
- Tendons - The purpose of tendon is to attach the muscles to the bone.
- Ligaments - The purpose of ligaments is to connect the ends of bones together which form the joints.
The movement of body is achieved through help of both muscles and bones. One end of the bone is always fixed which is termed as origin and the other end is move-able which is known as insertion. When a muscle contracts, it exerts a force on the tendon which transfers that force to the bone and as a result the bone is pulled resulting in the desired movement. Ligaments keep the bones intact and also determine the range of motion of the bones.
