Well it marked the beginning of the start of the Islamic State is Libya.
It is not really important for what happened there but it is important as a symbol.
It shows the driving out of America by the Libyans who then turned to the Islamic State.
But it is even more important to the US, not because of the people killed, but because it continues to highlight the failure of Middle Eastern Nation Building.
