The Louisiana Purchase (1803) was a land deal between the United States and France, in which the U.S. acquired approximately 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River for $15 million.

The Louisiana purchase was made my french leader (soon emperor) Napoleon Bonaparte. The US gained 800,000 square miles of land by paying about 15 million dollars. The new land was used as areas to make, sell, and buy food. Since the east didn't have enough fertility to make food, everyone moved to the west, in hope for new beginnings.

Hope this helps :P
