quickly tried to establish their influence in the world after World War
II. The U.S. feared that the Soviets
would extend their influence and help other countries to spread the ideals of
democracy. This competition between the
two resulted in the Cold War where both sides tried to gain the upper hand in
world dominance. It ended with the
collapse of communism in the early 90s.
