What are some of the differences between ancient (especially greek and roman) and medieval art? what are some of the cultural changes that account for those differences?

Respuesta :

Greco-Roman art has an emphasis on Humanism and the perfection of ones body, along with pagan characters. In medieval art, many of the paintings were of Biblical scenes. Many of the Greco-Roman age sculptures were naked, and in medieval times it was sometimes seen as heresy/sodomy to have naked, youthful boys as the subject, thus being condemned by the Church.

The major difference comes from the artwork, and the changes that come from the different heritage.

What is art?

Art can be defined as the representation of ideas or views with the help of visual representation.

Ancient art including Roman art was created in ancient Rome, especially in the areas under the control of the Roman Empire. The Romans were influenced by the Etruscans. Art and artists from North Africa, Europe, and the Middle East are all included in the broad field of medieval art history.

Roman artists frequently alluded to earlier Greek works in the contexts of character and art. This reveals how highly Greek painters were esteemed by the Romans. German, Islamic, and Roman influences can all be seen in medieval art. Depending on the geographical locations and cultural origins of the artists, medieval art differed greatly.
