The similarities between old and new imperialism would be, the essence of every imperialism is the conquest and possession of another country. Further,  the exploitation and the extraction of natural goods, gold, agricultural products, exploitation and enslavement of the workforce of the colonized countries as well as the demand for new markets, and the strengthening of imperial powers. Also, in both cases it is a military conquest, and direct colonial rule.
