The chief importance of the Phoenician alphabet was that it allowed people acroos the Phoenician Empire to communicate in writing.
This is the oldest verified alphabet. It consist on 22 consonant letters, the vowels were implicit in the sound. The alphabet was derived from the Egyptian hieroglyphs and became the most widely used writting system across the Mediterranean world. Many of the modern aphabets derives from this one.
