Animals with chitinous exoskeletons and jointed appendages are classified as Arthropods.

Arthropods are invertebrates which have an exoskeleton (external skeleton) enveloped with cuticle of chitin, a segmented body, and paired jointed appendages (each segment contains a pair of appendages). The cuticle is a rigid structure (usually mineralised with calcium carbonate), so those animals must replace it periodically by moulting. Arthropods include insects, arachnids, myriapods, and crustaceans.
