The Texas state lottery works in regard to state tax revenue by raising funds that are used in the development of the education and other public initiatives in Texas.

The amount of the winners are subjected to federal tax which comes around 24% of the total winning amount, if the winners are not US citizens then they are subjected to 30% of the total amount.
In 23 years of the lottery system from 1992 to 2004, the total sale comes under 75.3 billion dollars and the net revenue to the state comes around 23 billion dollars.
27.1% of this money has been diverted towards government spending on sectors like education and public works. 4% to administrative cost and 5.4% to retailer commissions.
