In several other instances within the myths of Arthurian literature and legend, Lancelot becomes an object of temptation for many women. Guinevere, Arthur's wife and the Queen of Camelot, is one, and Lancelot's eventual wife Elaine is another. From this poem, the Lady of Shalott becomes another woman who falls for Lancelot.
