The common trend of poverty leading to communistic thinking convinced some to think the best way to prevent communism was to prevent deep levels of poverty.
Lyndon Johnson created poverty programs to help the conditions of the poor. By preventing deep levels of poverty from occurring and providing basic needs, people would be less likely to turn to socialist ideas.
