Isolation of bacteria is done by  growing on the surface of a solid nutrient media. This made of usually form protein, salts and agar. These can be differentiated from selective and differential media. Selective allows the growth of some bacteria and inhibit others while differential media has compounds that can visually distinguish various microorganism. Media can also be enriched by adding blood, sugar, and even protein to achieve the target organims.
