Self esteem is self-respect and confidence in your abilities. Self esteem is important in making choices, building talents, and finding worth in yourself. Not only that, but self esteem makes us feel happier. Self esteem is especially important in finding a job or a relationship, in those situations confidence is key. 

Self esteem can be gained through a number of things, though verbal encouragement is often a very strong way of boosting self esteem. An example of when I was encouraged was a few years ago...(tell a story about someone complimenting a talent :) )

Without self esteem, everyone would be nervous and insecure, which would amount to a very unhealthy society.

Having respect for others is important but having self-respect is also a necessity in whichever environment you go, be it a job or a relationship. In every situation, confidence is very important. Self-esteem plays a very significant role in everyone’s life. My life is not an exception. This confidence on oneself can be gained though encouragement in any form. Appreciation is a strong way of boosting one’s self-confidence.

When I was in school, I was scared of talking in front of a large crowd. Once my class teacher encouraged me to take part in an elocution competition. Initially, I didn’t want to but my teacher supported me in many ways and persuaded me. Seeing my teacher’s confidence in me, I gave it a shot and was surprised by the reaction of the audience. Not only did I win the first prize, I was also able to overcome my fear. The principal and the teachers as well as the other students praised me for my efforts. That experience boosted my self-esteem to a very high level.
