Always divide by 10 first, for example; if it was 10% of 20 you would divide 20 by 10 to get 2. If it was 20% of 40 you would divide by 10 to get 4 then times by 2 to get 8.

Say you wanted to find 13% of 23.

13% = .13

23 • .13 = 2.99

13% of 23 = 2.99
