We can solve it algebraically:
[tex] \sqrt{3y} +4-4=5-4[/tex] (subtract 4 from both sides to isolate [tex] \sqrt{3y} [/tex]
[tex] ( \sqrt{3y})^{2} = (1)^{2} [/tex] (square both sides to get rid of square root on left side
[tex]3y/3=1/3[/tex] (divide both sides by 3 to isolate y)
[tex]y= \frac{1}{3} [/tex]
