In 1500, just after Columbus 'discovered' America (in 1492) Spain was just starting to explore the New World in what is now Latin America including Cortes in Mexico and later Pizarro in the now Peru and Bolivia so I believe that right at 1500 these explorations hadn't started yet but were being planned and were executed in the early 1500's.
