Egypt was a member of the Arab League and opposed the existence of Israel.
In 1949 it was signed the Armistice Agreements that were a series of armistice agreements signed by Israel, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. The Armistice aimed to end hostilities between those countries.
In 1952 Egypt violated the Armistice by blocking Israeli ships from passing through the Suez Canal and blocking traffic through Straits of Tiran - a passage of water that links Israel to the Red Sea -.
This was especially because Egypt was a member of the Arab League and Gamal Abdul Nasser reorientated Egypt’s foreign policy, later this created the Suez Crisis.
