Plant diseases caused by fungi reduce the crops, alter the flowers and fruits and finally cause the death of the plant. Examples of fungi with the plant diseases they cause are Magnaporthe grisea (rice blast), Thielaviopsis spp. (canker rot), Ustilago spp. (smuts ) and Phakospora pachyrhizi (soybean rust).
