The standardized residual for
a large and positive cell means that there are many more observations in the
cell than expected. As a rule, if the residual is greater than two, the observed
frequency is greater than the expected frequency. Therefore, the standardized
residual is a measure of strength between observed and expected values when
comparing the cells. So, it is easier to see which cells are contributing the
most to the value, and which are contributing the least.
