In a series of laws, known collectively as the import relief laws, congress has authorized the president to raise U.S. tariffs on specified products and to provide other forms of import protection to U.S. businesses. The import relief law refers to the governmental measures imposed on temporarily restricted importance of a product. This is to stop outside producers and help domestic producers with less competition.
