A pool measuring 16 meters by 30 meters is surrounded by a path of uniform width, as shown in the figure. If the area of the pool and the path combined is 1472 square meters what is the width of the path?

Take the whole area and minus the pools area

1472 - (16x30)

This gives the total path area

Take the total path area and divide it by the perimeter (16+16+30+30)

This will just leave the width left over
