[tex]2.8+6+0.2y=5y-14. \newline 2.8+6+0.2y-5y+14=0. \newline 0.2y-5y=-2.8-6-14. \newline -4.8y = -22.8. \newline 4.8y = 22.8. \newline y = \frac{22.8}{4.8} = 4.75.[/tex]

2.8 + 6 + 0.2y = 5y -14

Combine like terms:
8.8 + 0.2y = 5y - 14

Isolate all the y to the left:
5y - 0.2y = 8.8 + 14

Combine like terms:
4.8y = 22.8

Divide by 4.8 on both sides:
y = 4.75

Answer: y = 4.75
