Often times, the actual object is much more expensive to create. That's why many designers and engineers create a model to represent their ideas to a group. The model is much cheaper and faster to create, especially if it needs tweaking multiple times. Also, that model can have working parts - you could take it apart to show the inside/cross-section or have interactive sections that allow easier presentation of your idea. Those are things you can't accomplish with an actual object.

Answer:

Because models are cheaper and don't take up as much space. They are good for presentations when you want to present something with ease. It's also okay if something happens to the model because it doesn't actually effect what the presenter may be presenting. Like for example, a car model is much smaller, you can easily display the car to your audience without difficulty, and the model would be much lighter and portable than an actual car itself.
