Overview: An EHR (Electronic Health Record) is sort of like a database for everything that is patient-related. It contains all the records about a patient that would be essential for:
(1) Communicating patient results with other departments. With an easily accessible database containing everything about the patients, other departments, say those who's in charge of vaccination, could see any allergies the patient may have.
(2) Giving healthcare professionals access to evidence-based records. Oftentimes, doctors and other professionals still need to gather essential information from the patients themselves in order to help them diagnose the patient. A real-time database would help them easily look up everything they need.
(3) Aiding in the automation of the hospital's workflow. Since various healthcare providers and departments can have real-time access to the Electronic Health Record (EHR) already, the workflow inside the hospital would run smoother and faster than before.
