Yes Dr. Davenport need internal review board (IRB) approval for this study.
According to their website, IRB approval is necessary for human subject research which will result in publication in a graduate or senior student essay or thesis . Failing to follow this requirement might cause the university where the research is conducted would no longer receive the subsidies that given by federal government.
