Zones of inhibition can be seen when growing bacteria in an agar plate. When you add antibiotics to the bacteria you might see, (after a few days) a zone of inhibition around the samples of bacteria.

A zone of inhibition is simply the area around the bacteria where bacteria has not grown. This is due to a piece of wafer coated in antibiotics inhibiting the growth of the bacteria.
