The nursing management priority for this client is: Correction of nutritional deficits
Correcting the nutrition deficit is a higher priority. Clients with gastric cancer commonly have nutritional deficits and may be cachectic. Nutritional deficits occur when the body does not absorb or get the necessary amount of nutrient from food. Discharge planning before surgery is important, but at present, radiation therapy has not been proven effective for gastric cancer, and teaching about it preoperatively would not be appropriate. Prevention of DVT also is not a high priority to surgery, though it assumes greater importance after surgery.
