This age is characterized by secretion of hormones controlled by brain and secreted by gonads like estrogen in ovaries in females and testosterone in testes in males. The secretion of these hormones leads to the sudden changes in the body appearance which makes the body sexually mature.

For example : Puberty in girls leads to the development of primary sex organs like uterus, vagina etc. and secondary sex characteristics like enlargement of breast.
