2. Since heat touching the surface of an ice cube causes it to melt, is it better for an ice cube to have a large surface area of a small surface area? Why? (At least 3 sentences.)

Respuesta :

Heat touching the surface of the ice cube causes it to melt. So a cube with larger surface area will allow more contact with the heat as compared to the cube with small surface area.

If the amount of heat that is being transferred to the ice cube from the surrounding environment is more, it will melt more quickly. If the ice cube melts more quickly it cannot serve its purpose i.e. to cool down the liquid it is dipped into.

Therefore, for better results, the surface area of the ice cube should be less, so that less heat touches its surface and the process of melting is slow.

Answer with explanation:

Intensity of heat is inversely proportional to surface area.

→So, If Intensity of Heat is higher ,means ,temperature near the Ice cube is higher, then surface area of Ice cube should be less so that the ice cube does not expand easily. If the size of ice cube is smaller then the bond between two  atoms of water particle will be higher ,which does not allow it to expand easily.

→But,having the same temperature, if the size of Ice cube is bigger the association between two different hydrogen and oxygen atoms will be quite less, which allows the Ice cube to expand easily.

→So, Higher the Intensity, lower should be the surface area of Ice cube or it is better to have smaller surface area of ice cube if you want to preserve it for longer period of time at any temperature.
