Rosalind Franklin had a crucial role in the discovery of the double helix structure of DNA. Her contribution to science was enormous even though her work was underestimated. She studied X-ray diffraction technology and she applied these methods to the study of DNA. This X-ray diffraction picture of a DNA molecule was the inspiration for Watson and Crick’s construction of  DNA model.
