You have to rearrange this so the equation will equal y :

Now take away x from both sides. This will leave you with :
[tex]2y = 5 - x[/tex]
As you can see the equation is equal to y, however, there is a 2 next to the y so we need to get rid of that.
So 2y basically means : 2* y
And the opposite of * is divide, which means we have to divide both sides by 2, which will leave us with our answer :
[tex]y = (5 - x) \div 2[/tex]
